Thomas John, former NNPC Ltd GMD, Alternate Chairman, Dies at 84
A former Group Managing Director (GMD) and Acting Alternate Chairman of the Board of the defunct Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Thomas Maurice Asuquo John, aged 84.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) announced the death of Dr Asuquo John in a release issued by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye.
In the release, the NNPC Limited described the deceased as a “quintessential administrator and oil & gas industry professional”, recalling that Dr. John was the 5th GMD of the NNPC, having succeeded the late Dr. Aret Adams in April 1990, before bowing out in June 1992.
Dr John was also a Non-Executive Director, South Atlantic Petroleum (SAPETRO), Executive Chairman, Hydropec Engineering Services Ltd., and former Non-Executive Director, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc., among other positions.
“On behalf of the entire NNPC Ltd. Management and Staff,” Soneye wrote, ” the GCEO, Mr. Mele Kyari, extends the Company’s heartfelt condolences to his dear wife, family, friends and relatives during this very trying period.
“May his soul rest in peace.”
