BREAKING/EXCLUSIVE: Martins Oloja is the New Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian

The Crest can reveal authoritatively that award-winning journalist, top administrator and former Editor of The Guardian (Daily) newspaper, Mr. Martins Oloja, has been appointed the new Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of The Guardian Newspapers Limited.

He will assume duty on Monday 23 March 2020.

A trustworthy source close to the Board of Directors at Rutam House, Lagos,  confided in The Crest that Oloja, who also headed the Abuja Bureau of the newspaper for many years, will replace Mr Debo Adesina, the current Chief Operating Officer, COO.

We can also reveal that while Mr. Adesina will retain his position as the COO, Mr. Alabi Williams, until now, the Editor of The Guardian on Sunday, will be named Editor of The Guardian (Daily).

Mr. Kabir Garba will also be named Weekend Editor, superintending both the Saturday and Sunday titles.

The top source also further informed The Crest that the newspaper will have three Deputy Editors, while Mr. Adesina, who is set to retire later this year, remains the COO.

Martins Oloja, the new EIC, who hails from Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State, was the second Editor of the  Abuja Newsday, the premier newspaper in Abuja (1988-1993); Senior Associate Editor of  The Source news magazine (1997-1999); wrote the first cover story of the magazine); Abuja Bureau Chief/Deputy Editor, The Guardian (1999-2012), Editor, The Guardian (2012-2016); Executive Head, Editorial Board, (2016-2020).

He is a product of Mass Communication Department, University of Lagos, and University of Liverpool where he did a post-graduate study in International Management.  He is a member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, the Nigeria Union of Journalists and National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) United States.
