Arresting Igboho’ll Harm Southwest Peace, Group Warns IGP

The spokesman of the Project Nigeria Movement, PNM, Mr. Olawale Okunniyi, has warned the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu, over the purported arrest order issued against Mr. Sunday Adeyemo Igboho.

Igboho, a Yoruba nationalist activist, has been at the forefront of the campaign against Fulani herdsmen criminal activities in the South West, particularly, Ibarapa area of Oyo State.

His campaign had resulted in a clash between Fulani and indigenes in Ibarapa area.

Reacting to the order said to have been issued by the police boss in the country over his activities, Okunniyi said Igboho’s arrest could exacerbate the tension in the South West in particular and the country in general.

He said since some peace moves were already going on, arresting Igboho would do great harm.

Said Okunniyi: “The Yoruba are really aggrieved and traumatised at the moment over the random kidnapping, raping, maiming and killings of their kinsmen and women in their forest by those considered as criminal herders, which has therefore made the radical intervention of Sunday Igboho popular among the Yoruba.

“So any attempt to arrest him by the State may backfire instead of resolving the heightening tension in the land. What I know for sure is that Yoruba elders and traditional rulers are already consulting on the best solution on this matter.
