Ibarapa Crisis: Police Ask OPC for Evidence to Nail Wakilu

The police command in Oyo State has called on anyone who has any case against Iskilu Wakili to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department, CID, Iyaganku, Ibadan for discreet investigation.

Wakili is the Fulani “warlord” alleged to have been involved in various crimes bordering on kidnapping and killing among other crimes in Ibrapa area of Oyo State.

He was arrested by members of the Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, on Sunday after a gun duel in Ibarapa area of the state.

OPC has since handed him over to the police.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesman of the police, Gbenga Fadeyi, the police called on members of the public who might have a case against Wakili to report.

The statement reads in part: “In conclusion, anybody that has any case against Iskilu Wakili should report it to the State Criminal Investigation Department, (CID) Iyaganku Ibadan for discreet Investigation.”

Meanwhile, the police have indicated that three members of OPC members who effected the arrest of Wakilu were detained following the setting ablaze of Wakili’s house “while a female (the identity of who is yet to be ascertained) was burnt in the fire…”

“While there, the house of the Wakili in question was set ablaze, while a female (the identity of who is yet to be ascertained) was burnt in the fire and Wakili (about 75 years old and blind) with two other persons were picked up,” the police said.

The police added: “The three of them are presently in the custody of the Police. The Commissioner of Police has directed that Wakili (due to his frail appearance and state of health), be moved to the hospital while others are being interrogated. Others being interrogated are the OPC members, involved in arson and murder.”

The police warned that anyone found to have committed any crime irrespective ethnic group, would not be spared.
