Grammy Awards: Buhari Congratulates Burna Boy, Whizkid

President Muhammadu Buhari, Monday, congratulated Nigerian music star, Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, whose entry won the “Best Global Music Album” category in the 2021 Grammy awards, saying he has made notable contributions in the field of music which the world has come to recognize.

Burna Boy made history on Sunday, March 14, 2021, when his Twice As Tall 2020 project won the first ever Grammy under the ‘Best Global Music Album’ category during the 2021 Grammy Awards.

A statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, conveyed President Buhari’s felicitation to Burna Boy.

“Congratulations to Burna Boy on being conferred the 2021 Grammy, the world’s most prestigious musical awards,” Buhari said. “He has made notable contributions in the field of music which have brought glory to Nigerians at home and abroad. We are proud of his path-breaking achievements.”

The President also congratulated Wizkid who emerged as a joint winner at the Grammy Awards in a different category.

Buhari acknowledged the efforts of forerunners like King Sunny Ade and Femi Kuti whose creative exertions, he said, earned them Grammy nominations, paved the way and brought Nigerian music to global reckoning.

The President, according to Shehu, believes that the record breaking musical achievements are a recognition of the Nigerian creative talents, adding that the awards will open doors to other aspiring citizens.
