N29bn Fraud: You Have Case To Answer Sir! -Court Tells Ex-Gov. Murtala Nyako

It was a bad outing in court for former Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako, as the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, struck out the no-case submission that he and his co-accused had filed in the N29 billion fraud charges slammed against them.

Nyako, who will be 79 on August 27, 2021, served as two-term governor of Adamawa State.

Pointedly, Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, that the former governors and his co-travellers had a case to answer and must enter their defence in the matter filed against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The anti-graft agency is prosecuting the 79-year-old and his son, Abdul-Aziz Nyako as well as two companies-Sebore Farms and Extension Limited and Pagado Fortunes Limited for the alleged fraud.

They are first, second, sixth and seventh defendants respectively in the trial. Others are Zulkifik Abba, Abubakar Aliyu, Blue Opal Limited, Tower Assets Management Liited and Crust Energy Limited, listed as the third, fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth defendants respectively.

The defendants had filed a no-case submission after the prosecution finished calling its witnesses, urging the court to dismiss the charges against them on the grounds that the prosecution failed to link them to the alleged crimes.
