Fire in APC! Salihu Lukman, APC Governors Forum DG, Quits amid Convention Controversy

The fire flaring within the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, over its controversial national convention, festered on Sunday as the Director-General of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Salihu Lukman, resigned from his position.

The former Director-General is a committed opponent of moves by some powerful individuals within the ruling party who have been working relentlessly to thwart efforts to hold the national convention in February.

And for his continued opposition to such moves to extend the tenure of the National Caretaker Committee of the party led by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, The Crest learnt that some of APC governors reportedly called for Lukman’s resignation during a meeting in Abuja on Sunday.

However, after the meeting, Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu, who addressed the press, said the convention would hold in February. But he gave a caveat: only the Mai Mala Buni Committee had the power to announce the date for the convention.

“We are one group of stakeholders in the party and our party respects institutions,” Bagudu said.

“The appropriate organ of the party that will announce a date for the national convention is the CECPC.

“We discussed our upcoming convention which you may recall I had cause to address the press after we visited President Buhari in November 2021 where the president and the party agreed that the convention would take place in February.”
