In Ghana, Court Jails Two Nigerians 40-yrs for Robbery

Two Nigerians smart alecs have been jailed for 40 years in Ghana by the Kasoa Ofaakor Circuit Court for robbing a mobile money vendor in broad daylight light at Kasoa New Market Junction in the Central Region area..

According to Ghana Web, the robbery incident happened on Tuesday, May 17, 2022.

The jailed armed robbers were said to have carted away a total of GH¢11,800.

The two convicts, Bright Okwara and Ferdinand Obi committed the crime after the victim had withdrawn the money from a bank at Kasoa.

The duo pleaded not guilty to both attempted robbery and robbery during trial.

However, the court presided over by Mr Ebenezer Osei Darko, found them guilty and gave each defendant a 20-year prison sentence.

On the day of the event, MHassan Nuru Yaroh, a mobile money vendor, was attacked while trying to withdraw money from the bank for his business.

Chief Inspector Emmanuel Amponsah, the prosecutor, informed the court that Mr Yaroh had withdrawn GHC11,800 and was riding his motorcycle to a store when he saw another motorcycle following him.

He claimed that after becoming aware of his pursuers, Mr Yaroh made the decision to ride to the police station. Unfortunately, his motorcycle broke down, and the two eventually caught up with him.

The inmates quickly stole the cash and fled, but fortunately, Mr Yaroh’s bike had restarted. He pursued the inmates until they became stuck in traffic at the police station close to the market crossroads when he sounded an alarm to warn onlookers.

The prosecutor claims that the victim approached them, struck them with his bike, and took the money back.
