Naira Squeeze:  How Presenter on Yinka Ayefele’s Radio Station, Died Trekking to Office

The ongoing Naira squeeze has claimed a prominent casualty whose sudden death has sent the house of the Nigerian media into deep mourning.

Baba Bintin, a popular comic presenter with Ibadan-based private radio station, Fresh FM Nigeria, reportedly slumped while trekking to the station on Saturday for his programme which he usually presented in Ijesa dialect.

Known for his conviviality and dexterity in comedy, Baba Bintin, a stickler for time, was being expected at the station for his very popular breakfast programme on Saturday.

In fact, reports said two presenters of another popular programme, Oyin Ado, were said to have expressed worry on their programme about the unusual lateness of Baba Bintin.

But unknown to them, the comic presenter had slumped on the way to the office and was already lying cold in the icy clutches of death at the University College Hospital, lbadan, UCH.

The troubling task of announcing Baba Bintin’s passing to his numerous fans also fell on the presenters of Oyin Ado, Komolafe Olaiya and Olalomi Amole, who announced the comic presenter’s death towards the end of their programme.

The popular presenter was said to have died while trekking from Amuloko to Fresh FM situated at the Challenge area Saturday morning with the aim of getting some cash from a Point Of Sale (POS) agent.

Komolafe Olaiya and Olalomi Amole were said to have played an audio on radio in which a man was reported to have disclosed that they found Baba Bintin slumped on his way to the office and rushed him to UCH where he died.

The radio station, Fresh FM, is owned by popular juju artiste, Yinka Ayefele.
