Ex-Speaker Ghali Na’Abba to be buried in Kano today

...His battle for life

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ghali Umar Na’Abba, who died Wednesday morning in Abuja following a protracted illness, will be buried in Kano today, a Family told The Crest.

His body has been taken to Kano preparatory to his burial in a short while. He was aged 65.

Na’Abba,  the 8th Speaker of the House of Representatives, had been battling an undisclosed ailment that knocked him out of public life for some years.The battle for life saw him receiving treatment in a London hospital for some time at a stage.

He suffered stroke recently and was taken to the National Hospital, Abuja, in what the Family source described as a “very bad shape” about two weeks ago.

Born on September 27, 1958, the former Speaker joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at the onset of this democracy and began his journey to the House of Representatives when he got the ticket as his party’s candidate for the Kano Municipal Federal Constituency.

He won the vote during the April 1999 general elections and landed in the House of Representatives. He subsequently emerged Speaker of the House of Representatives after the political crisis that led to removal of the first Speaker of the Fourth Republic,  Mr. Salisu Buhari.

Na’Abba attended the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he studied political science and graduated in 1979.
