Diezanigate: Ex-INEC Official Jailed for Bribery
The Federal High Court in Lagos State, on Thursday, convicted a former Administrative Secretary of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. Christian Nwosu, who was charged with bribery. Nwosu was found guilty of benefiting from a sum of $115.01 million which a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke doled out to compromise the 2015 elections.
The EFCC said Nwosu collected N30 million from the Diezani funds. He was convicted of bribery on Thursday by Justice Mohammed Idris.
The ex-official of INEC, stood trial before the Federal High Court, Lagos, for allegedly receiving N264 million bribe from former minister of petroleum resources, to rig the 2015 general election. Christian Nwosu, a former administrative secretary with INEC, has been convicted of benefiting from a sum of $115.01m that the former minister paid to several people towards compromising the 2015 general election. Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court, Lagos, convicted Nwosu following accusations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that he collected N30m from the former minister. Back in October 2017, Nwosu admitted that he benefited N30 million from Diezani, however he added that it was “not directly”.
It has been reported that an arrest warrant has been issued for former petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, by the International Police following a request by the federal government through the office of the attorney general of the federation to the agency.
