The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi has suspended indefinitely state and local government Auditor-Generals for their incompetence.
Umahi revealed this in a statement by the secretary to the state government, Dr. Kenneth Ugbala.
The statement reads in part: “Following the directive of His Excellency, the Governor of Ebonyi State Engr. David Nweze Umahi, the State Auditor-General, Mr. Innocent Nweda and the Auditor-General for Local Governments, Ebonyi State Mr. George Ukpai are hereby suspended indefinitely from their offices with immediate effect.
“The indefinite suspension is a result of their failure to perform the duties of their offices especially the preparation and production of annual audited accounts of the State and the Local Governments respectively.
“During the period of suspension, Mr. Innocent Nweda should handover to the next most senior officer in rank, while Dr. U.S.A. Udu should take charge of the Local Government Audit as Acting Auditor-General until further notice.
“All handover and takeover should be completed before the close of work on Monday 13th July 2020” he stated.
