Nigeria returns seized Mine Resistant and Multi-Purpose Military vehicles to America

Nigerian  Customs Service, Friday,  in Yola, the Adamawa State capital  handed over the intercepted six controversial Mine Resistant and Multi-Purpose  Military vehicles to the American government.

Mr. Kamardeen Olumoh, Comptroller, Nigeria Customs, in charge of Adamawa and Taraba States respectively,   handed over the vehicles on behalf of the Nigerian government to  Ms. Kathleen FitzGibbon, the Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of the United States of America in Nigeria.

He said the directive to release them emanated from the office of the National Security Adviser, NSA.

“I am directed  from the National Security Adviser to comply, release and hand over the vehicles to the American Government, ”  Olumoh said.

Responding, Ms. Kathleen FitzGibbon, the Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of United States of America in Nigeria, thanked the Nigerian government for its understanding.

According to her, the vehicles were en-route to Niger Republic for a security mission.

“Nigeria and America have good relations and understanding, and the vehicles were en-route to Niger Republic for security mission,”  FitzGibbon said.

She commended  the Nigerian authorities for keeping the vehicles very well, adding that the American Air Force Carrier would transport  the vehicles to Niger Republic.

Our correspondent reports that military and security officers from various formations in Nigeria, as well as some military officers and military attache of the American Embassy, including Major Peter Shayborn of the US Air Force attended the event.
