The torrential rainfall that started since October 1 in Ondo State has claimed an entire Ese-Odo Local Government area in the Southern part of the state as the people are calling on Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to come to their rescue now so as to avoid a holocaust.
The Crest can confirm that major towns in the state such as Igbotu, Governor Akeredolu’s mother’s town, Enikorogha, Igbekebo and other Apoi towns are said to be licking their wounds right now and counting their losses even as the rain continues to exacerbate the people’s dilemma.
An eye witness who spoke to our reporter in the state said that people in the local government have remained indoor since the rain started before it got to its crescendo Friday and they have to abandon their houses and held rapid dialogue with their legs running for dear lives.
“We have never seen this type of flood in the local government,” the witness said. “Though there is no human casualty yet; the quantum of loss is huge. The water has destroyed a lot of properties in the houses, farmlands gone and nobody could go to the farm or the rivers to fish.
“The government must act fast now as victims have left the local government enmasse to become refugees in neighbouring Irele Local Government. Some have even gone as far as to Okitipupa to join their kith and kin. The people need relief materials and government intervention quickly.”
According to report, the road from Okitipupa to Ode-Irele has been totally taken over by the flood and travelers have opted for boats and canoes to link Okitipupa.
The Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Agbola Ajayi and the AAC Presidential candidate in the February 23 election, Omoyele Sowore hail from Kiribo, the only town not yet affected by the disaster but the farmers claim that their farms have been destroyed and ‘there may be famine in the entire local government this year,’ says the source.
