Commissioners of Education in Southwest and North Central states of Nigeria, will lead others to a meeting of stakeholders on Yoruba language education, scheduled for Ibadan, today, Thursday, March 3, 2022.
The Yoruba World Centre, in collaboration with Oodua Investment Company Plc and the DAWN Commission, is organising an annual Yoruba Language Millionaire Contest in the Southwest, Kwara and Kogi states, for the development of the language, and representing it as a tool for youth empowerment, industry and commerce, regional and national unity.
In order to have institutional backing for the programme, all stakeholders have been invited to be briefed and also to discuss extensively on it.
A statement from the Yoruba World Centre informs that decision makers on education and Yoruba language expected at the meeting will include: Commissioners of Education in Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Kogi and Kwara States, Chairmen of Education Committees of Houses of Assembly and Chairmen of ALGON in the above-mentioned states, the President, Yoruba Secondary School Teachers Association (Egbe Akomolede ati Asa), President, Yoruba Language Lecturers in Universities(YSAN), President, Yoruba Language Lecturers in Colleges of Education, Director of Yoruba Language Centre, University of Ibadan, CEO of Centre for Yoruba Language Engineering (CEYOLENG), Publisher of Alaroye Newspaper, the Managing Director of University Press Ltd, and the President of the Publishers Association of Nigeria.
The Group Managing Director of Oodua Group of Companies Plc, the Director General of Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission and the Coordinator of the Yoruba World Centre will host the members.
The release added that this will be the first meeting of the stakeholders towards ensuring the success of the project which is meant to reclaim the youths from the grip of foreign language and ways of life.
