Corruption: Appeal Court Reduces Dariye’s jail term to 10; Nyame-12 Plus N525m fine

The Court of Appeal in Abuja, on Friday, landed its gavel on the prison sentences of Chief Joshua Dariye, ex-Governor of Plateau State, and Rev. Jolly Nyame, former Governor of Taraba State, both of whom are serving 14 years jail term for criminal breach of trust and criminal misappropriation.

In the case of Nyame, the Justice Abdul Aboki-led three-man panel of the Court of Appeal, upheld the decision of the lower court but slashed the 14-years jail term of the former Taraba helmsman to 12 years; then, imposed a fine of N525million on the convict, saying the lower court omitted it while serving justice to him.

In a unanimous decision delivered by Justice Steven Adah, the appellate court also upheld the June 12, 2018 High Court conviction of Joshua Dariye, reducing his sentence of 14 years (regarding criminal breach of trust) to 10 years, slashing the two years attached to his conviction on criminal misappropriation to one.

Dariye had been convicted on June 12, this year, by Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in Gudu, Abuja, for diverting Plateau State’s ecological funds, among others, for personal use.
